1-1) General Job Seeking (D-10-1): Applicants Subject to Point System ❍ Those legally residing in Korea with a bachelor's degree (or domestic associate degree or higher) who score at least 20 points in the basic category out of 190 total points on the job-seeking points table and whose total score is 60 points or higher. 1-2) General Job Seeking (D-10-1): Exemptions from Point System ❍ First-time job-seeking status change after graduation for international students: Those who graduate with an associate degree or higher from a domestic university under a student visa (D-2) and change to job-seeking (D-10-1) status for the first time are exempt from the point system. ※ Initial job-seeking stay period is 6 months; extensions will apply the point system. ※ Includes those who obtain a D-10 visa within one year after graduation without leaving Korea. ※ However, those who have previously held a D-10 status are not considered first-time and must comply with the point system. ❍ Korean language proficiency exemption for domestic university graduates: Those who obtained an associate degree or higher from a domestic regular university within the past 3 years, and hold a valid TOPIK level 4 or higher score report, passed the midterm evaluation of the social integration program, or received a pre-evaluation score of 81 or above. ※ Those whose degree was obtained more than 3 years ago must follow the general point system. ❍ Experienced professionals in specialized occupations: Those who previously held E-1 to E-7 stay status but whose employment contract has expired or who have otherwise legally ended their employment activities. 2. Advanced Technology Intern (D-10-3) ❍ Students enrolled in or graduates within 3 years of completion (under 30 years old for bachelor’s degree holders, under 35 for master’s or higher) from a top overseas university in advanced technology fields who have signed an internship contract with any of the following domestic companies or institutions: * Listed domestic companies with advanced technology research facilities (dedicated research department). * Domestic companies with corporate research institutes or dedicated R\&D departments recognized under Article 14-2 of the Basic Research Act. * Companies designated as advanced technology enterprises under Article 9 of the Special Act on Fostering Research and Development Special Zones. * Venture companies certified by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups under Article 25 of the Special Measures for Fostering Venture Businesses Act. * National/public research institutes, specific research institutions, government-funded research institutes in the field of science and technology. B. Restrictions 1. | Notification of Internship Commencement and Change of Internship Organization | A. General Information on Internship Activities
❍ (Legal Basis) Immigration Control Act Article 35 (Report of Changes to Foreign Registration Information), Enforcement Decree Article 44, Enforcement Rule Article 49-2 (Item 3) For those with the Job-Seeking Visa (D-10), the law requires notification of internship commencement or change of internship organization (including changes in name). ❍ (Eligible Applicants) Foreign nationals who: * Hold the D-10-1 (General Job-Seeking) visa, * Have completed foreign registration, and * Intend to start an internship in fields corresponding to Professor (E-1) through Special Activities (E-7), * Or intend to change their affiliated organization during the job-seeking period. ※ Even if foreign registration has not yet been completed, if the reason for reporting arises within the mandatory registration period (within 90 days from entry), the report must still be submitted. Note : Holders of the Technology Startup Visa (D-10-2) and those who changed to D-10-1 from an E-1 to E-7 visa due to prior work experience are not permitted to engage in internships. B. Criteria for Internship Commencement (or Change) Notification ❍ Deadline : Within 15 days of the reason for reporting occurring, notification must be submitted to the head of the local immigration office. ❍ Internship Duration : Allowed within the job-seeking visa validity period, up to 1 year total, * Maximum 6 months at a single company or organization, * Must meet the qualification requirements for the specific job category. ❍ Internship Allowance : Must be appropriately paid based on the employment contract at a level not lower than the minimum wage, calculated on an hourly basis. ❍ Eligible Internship Fields : Must fall under job types E-1 to E-7. * Part-time jobs or simple labor work are not permitted. * Excluded fields : Entertainment establishments (E-6-2), Skilled Worker (E-7-4), and non-professional fields. ❍ Internship Organizations : Only permitted at companies/institutions that meet the requirements to employ E-1 to E-7 visa holders. * If interning in fields that normally require an employment recommendation letter, submission is waived during internship. (However, it is still required when changing to an E-7 visa.) ❍ Working Hours : Internship activity must comply with current labor laws — up to 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week. * If there are no specific provisions, follow the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s guidelines for legal status and protection of work-experience trainees. ❍ Change of Internship Organization : When an individual with a job-seeking visa starts a new internship or changes internship institutions (including name changes). * Applies to those who have signed a contract to work as an intern (trainee/probationary employee) for 1 to less than 6 months with a fixed stipend. * Short-term trial work (e.g., for testing potential employment) is not included. C. Rejection of Internship Notification ❍ Cases where the foreign national does not meet the requirements for internship participation. ❍ Internship contracts made with companies that do not meet the criteria for hiring foreign nationals. ❍ Misuse of internship positions may result in rejection : * If, within the past 6 months, the company has hired foreign interns without offering follow-up employment, and those interns account for 10% or more of regular staff (including foreigners), or 20% or more for companies with fewer than 10 employees. * Exception : If the company has hired any interns as employees through the internship program. ❍ If the internship exceeds 6 months at the same company, the application will be rejected. D. | Notification of Change of Advanced Technology Intern Institution | A. Reason and Deadline for Notification of Change
❍ (Reason for Notification) : When a foreign national wishes to continue advanced technology internship activities after changing their affiliated company or institution. ❍ (Deadline for Notification) : Within 15 days from the date of change in affiliated company or institution. B. Required Documents ❍ Passport, Alien Registration Card, and Notification Form for Change in Foreign Registration Information ❍ All documents required for application for change of status of stay (excluding certificate of enrollment and academic transcript) C. Grounds for Rejection of Change Notification ❍ If the inviting company/institution is restricted from hiring general job-seeking (D-10-1) interns or from employing foreigners under professional job categories (E series) ❍ If the employment contract is made with a company/institution that does not meet the requirements for inviting advanced technology interns ❍ If the number of invited advanced technology interns exceeds 20% of the Korean employee count at the host company/institution * “Korean employees” refer to those who are paid at least the minimum wage and have been listed on the employment insurance registry for at least 3 months. * For venture companies, the 20% limit based on Korean employee count is waived for 3 years from the date of establishment. |
| Special Stay Support Measures for Advanced Technology Interns | ❍ For those currently participating in Advanced Technology Internship (D-10-3) activities :
* (Support for Economic Activity) : Within the permitted period of stay, interns may receive a specified salary or living expenses through an internship employment contract with the inviting company, or receive separate research performance compensation, etc. ※ However, part-time employment permitted under the general job-seeking visa (D-10-1) is not allowed for D-10-3 holders. * (Support for Study) : Regardless of nationality, if an intern wishes to study at a Korean university, a change to the student visa (D-2) is allowed with just a standard admission letter. ❍ For those who have participated in Advanced Technology Internship (D-10-3) activities within the past 3 years : * (Support for Employment) : Individuals who have interned for over 1 year at a domestic company under the D-10-3 visa and gain formal employment in the same field, earning at least the previous year's per capita Gross National Income (GNI), will be exempt from academic and work experience requirements when changing to the Specific Activities (E-7) visa. * (Support for Startups) : Individuals who have interned for over 1 year under the D-10-3 visa at a domestic company and wish to start a tech business in the same field will receive additional points (15 points for research experience) in the points-based evaluation for the Tech Startup visa (D-8-4). 【Point-based Job-Seeking Visa (D-10-1) Score Table】 □ “An applicant who scores 60 points or more in total, including at least 20 points in the basic items out of a total of 190 points”  |
